Following a similar model of Investancia’s flagship Paraguayan project, Investancia Brasil Ltda. successfully launches its ground-breaking reforestation project, “Reflorestamento de Impacto no Brasil,” achieving validation under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS).
Porto Murtinho, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. 16/01/2025 – Investancia Group B.V., is proud to announce the successful validation and registration of another ground-breaking reforestation project, Reflorestamento de Impacto no Brasil, under the Verified Carbon Standard program (Verra Registry ID# 4430). With technical assistance from Climate Investment Partners, this accomplishment marks a significant milestone in Investancia’s commitment to combatting climate change, extending from its conservation and reforestation work in Paraguay now extending into Brazil.
The Reflorestamento de Impacto no Brasil Project focuses on reforesting privately owned degraded pastureland cleared of native vegetation over ten years prior to the project’s commencement with a combination of productive and native trees. In addition to sequestering carbon dioxide on degraded lands, the selected tree species improve pastures and produce a non-edible seed that can be harvested for its seedcake (protein) and seed oil (SAF/HVO raw material/feedstock).
Key Highlights of the Project:
- Project Dates: 19/5/2023 to 18/5/2063 (40 years)
- Standard: Verified Carbon Standard (VCS)
- Methodology: AR-ACM0003
- Project Proponents: Investancia Brasil Ltda / Climate Investment Partners
- Establishes reforestation oil feedstock and seedcake as valuable commodities in regions traditionally dominated by land clearing and cattle ranching
- Employs a silvopastoral system, allowing for continued cattle grazing or hay production alongside reforestation efforts
- Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) contributed include: No Poverty, Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-Being, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Clean Water and Sanitation, Decent Work and Economic Growth, Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, Reduced Inequalities, Responsible Consumption and Production, Climate Action, Life on Land, Partnerships for the goals
“We are incredibly proud to have achieved VCS registration for our Reflorestamento de Impacto no Brasil Project,” said Marcel van Heesewijk, CEO and founder of Investancia Group B.V.
“This project exemplifies our dedication to environmental sustainability, carbon mitigation, and community well-being. By restoring degraded lands and creating valuable biofuel sources, we demonstrate that economic growth and environmental stewardship can go hand in hand.”
“Climate Investment Partners is excited to support this ground-breaking project and we look forward to scaling up the project in the near future,” said James Eaton, CEO of Climate Investment Partners LLC.
The validation and registration process involved a rigorous assessment of the project’s design, methodology, and projected carbon benefits, which was audited by AENOR, an independent third-party auditor approved by Verra.
The Reflorestamento de Impacto no Brasil Project is poised to become a model for sustainable land management and carbon offsetting in Brazil. Through its innovative approach, Investancia demonstrates the potential for businesses to positively impact the environment and local communities while contributing to global climate action.
Investancia Brasil Ltda aims to expand its nursery and operational capacity in Mato Grosso do Sul as it looks to scale the project across Brazil.
An experienced project developer, this project marks the second ARR project for the partnership of Investancia Group and Climate Investment Partners following the successful registration of VCS-2496 – Impact Reforestation in the Chaco Project in 2023.
